Dependency Court Litigation
It is a sad fact that children in our society are frequently the subject of abuse. When abuse allegations arise, the Department of Children's Services frequently becomes involved in an effort to protect the children. At times that involvement is necessary and useful. At other times, it is not, such as when a false allegation of abuse is made. When Children's Services becomes involved, the matter is handled through the Dependency Court. The Dependency Court has its own set of rules, procedures, and processes that are dramatically different from the way matters are handled in family law court. The rights of parents are significantly limited and controlled in Dependency Court and the decisions that are made there can have a lifetime impact on both parents and children. At these times, it is essential to engage the services of a lawyer who has experience in Dependency Court matters to assist parents in making sure that they do not become victims of a system that at times can appear to be out-of-control. At the same time, an advocate like Fred can be invaluable in insuring that the appropriate action is undertaken by the Dependency Court when an abuse has actually occurred.
